Nate Michael.

Australian Songwriter.

Nate Michael is an Australian singer-songwriter whose music blends the storytelling traditions of folk with the raw textures of grunge, rock, country, and blues. Raised in the coastal town of Warrnambool, Victoria, Nate’s songwriting is shaped by a deep connection to place and the human stories that inhabit it. His work explores themes of home, belonging, loss, addiction, betrayal, and resilience—often with an unpolished honesty that resonates long after the last note fades.

Nate Michael Unplugged - 2025

Nate Michael Unplugged is a stripped-back, intimate live record that captures Nate Michael at his most honest.

Recorded live in a theatre setting, Nate Michael Unplugged pares everything back to voice, acoustic guitar, and song. No studio polish, no safety net—just raw performances, natural room sound, and the quiet electricity that only happens when an audience is holding its breath.

The album moves between original songs and carefully chosen covers, re-imagined with warmth and restraint. Lyrics sit front and centre. You can hear fingers on strings, breaths between lines, and the subtle shifts in dynamics as each song unfolds in real time. It’s the sound of stories being told, not performed.

For longtime listeners, Nate Michael Unplugged offers a deeper look into familiar songs. For newcomers, it’s the perfect entry point—an unfiltered introduction to songwriting rooted in vulnerability, melody, and lived experience.

Best enjoyed loud, late, and uninterrupted.

This is Nate Michael, unplugged.

Inspired by the stories and characters that have shaped his own life, Michael released his first EP, ‘Bookends’ in June, 2023.

In 2024, Nate released his second EP Domestic Vagabond, recorded during the “Jet Lag Sessions” at Melbourne’s Soggy Dog Recording Studios. The collection captures the duality of being both rooted and restless, weaving intimate acoustic ballads with gritty, full-bodied arrangements. Nate’s music invites listeners into a shared space of reflection and connection. His songs are steeped in the landscapes of regional Australia yet speak to the experiences of wanderers and homebodies alike, marking him as a distinctive and authentic voice in the Australian folk scene.
